Herbal Handmade Soaps
Herbal soaps are made with only natural vegetable oils and scented with natural essential oils. No artificial fragrances, colors, preservatives, or animal products were used in making these soaps.
Colors are derived from the natural oils, ground spices or clay. There are no artifical preservatives or synthetic fragrances in herbal soaps. Lard and tallow are known to clog pores. Synthetic colors, fragrances, and preservatives are more likely to cause allergic reactions in individuals with sensitive skin than are pure essential oils and all natural colors. Using a petroleum product to make a soap actually creates a detergent.
Home made soap is made in small batches using the cold-process method. This means the ingredients are mixed at temperatures low enough to prevent damage to the delicate oils and herbs. Most commercial manufacturers use a hot-process method. Big manufacturers also remove the naturally occurring glycerine from the soap to sell as a byproduct of their soap production. Home made soap contains all of the naturally occurring glycerine plus it is "superfatted" with high quality oils. This means extra oil is added to the mixture after it has turned to soap so Bath Thyme soaps are more moisturizing than most others.
